Dad faces the dark side

I just came across this and had to post it.  LOL.

Whew...

No pox.  Everyone seems to be feeling better after what seems like months of illness.  My friend's youngest daughter broke out with chicken pox on Friday, and I could have taken the kids down for one more exposure, but, honestly, I just didn't have it in me.  

We're looking forward to a visit from Nana and Grandfather tomorrow!

The Chicken Pox Saga Continues....

Reagan has had a suspicious-looking spot on the side of her nose all day, and just a bit ago, what appears to be another is appearing on her cheek.  Molly also has a couple of "itchy spots" on her thigh that do not look like the hives she had earlier.  Could it be?  

The Family Film Festival begins again this week!  If the spots don't show themselves to be Chicken Pox, we may go and see IGOR; otherwise, I need to get to the library and return last week's Netflix and double-check what's in our cue! 

Gratittude

I know I do not say it often enough, especially here where I ramble on about the mundane, inane, and insane of my life.  The fact of the matter is that I am so, so very blessed.  I have not want nor need, aside from a bit more sleep, but I know that will come in time, and when it does, I will not regret that I didn't get more sleep.  I will regret it if I don't say thank you more often.  

So, THANK YOU, Ben, for all that you do.  Working hard and pouring over numbers day in and out, fighting odds right now that make your job so incredibly difficult.  For caring for us, for doing for us, far beyond providing a roof over our heads and food on our table.  

Thank you, our children, for teaching us so many lessons.  For challenging us daily to be the best people we can be. May we live up to the challenge, LOL.  For offering constant love, affection, and entertainment.

Thank You, our families, for supporting us, for loving us, for giving kind words and encouragement.  Making children the number one priority isn't always a popular way to live in this society, and your support means a great deal.

Doh!

Well, today, Molly has not one spot.  Apparently, it wasn't the Chicken Pox after all. Now the question remains, what was it??? And, will the kids come down with the Pox?  Ahhh, stay tuned to find out.

Pox update.

Molly's spots look more chicken-pox like today.  Killian has a low-grade fever, headache and cough, so I'm hoping he's getting them too.  Liam is showing no symptoms.  Reagan has a runny nose, but other than that, nothing.  

I haven't seen anymore spots on me, so I'm hoping it's just some fluke thing.

Ben's Mom and Bre are on their way here.  The kids are anxiously awaiting their arrival.  Ben is cooking soft pretzels downstairs.  I need to figure out what I'm making for dinner.  I was going to do chicken soup, but it's getting late...I'll get it started anyway, if nothing else, the stock will be ready for later.

WTH???

Molly's spots are not obvious, standard chicken pox-y looking spots.  And, I don't know if it's the Benedryl we gave her, or what, but they seem to fade and come back.  No watery blisters as of yet.

However, I have a very classic, standard chicken pox-y looking spot on my finger.  

I don't know what to think about that.

St. Patrick's Day Film Festival

I realized when I was thinking about this that I never updated you on our Halloween and Christmas film festivals, but I'm thinking I'll do that when we start planning for those holidays this year.

I'm a little late on this, but we watched Darby O' Gill and the Little People this weekend.  It's going to get cold again and snowy, so I'm wanting us all to hang out and watch movies and do some fun things this weekend.  Once the weather changes, I'm thinking (hoping) we'll be spending more time outside starting our garden, etc.   Ben and I decided last night when we were watching food network that we should make soft pretzels this weekend.  Maybe we can make them shamrock-shaped. ;)

We've got Finian's Rainbow and The Gnomemobile coming from Netflix (I don't suppose The Gnomemoblie has anything to do with St. Patrick's Day, but watching Darby O'Gill made Ben think of that movie).  After I web search and checking titles on Netflix, I've found some more titles we'll either get from Netflix or the library.

Reagan: "Maaawwwm, whir aarrree you?"  Usually, I'm standing right there, so I am thinking this, generally translated, means, "I want you."

Molly: "I feel worser."

Killian: "Worser is not a word."

Ben wrote and email to Killian's teacher regarding something that happened at school.  Ben read it to him and asked, "Does that sound OK?"  Killian replied, "Yeah, but maybe you shouldn't use so many big words so doesn't sound like the computer wrote it."

Reagan is apt to break out meowing and licking at people several times a day.  Apparently, she's part cat.

Still sick...

Miss Molly came down with whatever this is on Thursday night as well.  No puking for her, thank goodness.  Reagan and Molly both continue to feel miserable.  I took them both to the doctor today to make sure there was nothing more serious going on, and he did a strep culture.  No strep.  So, I guess that's a good thing.  We just have to wait it out.

Reagan's fever's back up.  I guess at least we got out for a bit and got the oil changed on the car and tires rotated.

To avoid doing dishes....

Well, technically, there was more to it than that.  I was whipping up my most-mornings breakfast of soaked oatmeal with coconut oil, maple syrup, raisins, a little milk, and tahini(in lieu of peanut butter).  I usually put about a tablespoon of tahini in there, and that was about all that was left in the can.  When faced with the option of scraping it out, it seemed so much more efficient to just put the oatmeal in there.  I had to take a picture of it because it amused me.  Maybe I'll start saving tahini cans to use as bowls...hmmmm....;0)

Liam went to school today.  He is still yucky, but he seems to be feeling a lot better and hasn't had a fever in 24 hours.

Reagan also seems to be feeling better, though she is coughing now.  So, I'm taking the girls out to get an oil change for the van, something I intended to do on Monday.  Hopefully, we are back to a stretch of healthy for a bit...at least until the Chicken Pox hit.  And I do hope they hit.  Killian especially needs to get them over with.  I don't trust the shot.

Sickies

Look at these poor pathetic babies....

Reagan's puking now.  I think as a result of fever.  Whatever Liam has must be something new to us.  And, I just intentionally exposed the kids to chicken pox on Monday.  It's going to be a long month.

Liam

Liam is sick now.  Cough and headache yesterday, and fever last night.  Still fever this morning.  Looks like the same thing Killian and the girls had, but more than a week later?  Please, please, let's hope it's not something new.

I've been sewing!

I couldn't take it anymore--I needed to make something with the new machine.  So, Sunday, I pulled it out and cut up one of those coffee bean bags and made this little bag.  Perhaps it was folly for my first project to include the very thing that broke my last machine, but apparently, the desire to make something out of those bags is too great for me.  

Then, yesterday, I cut up a pair of Ben's old khaki's and turned them into a new library bag. Both projects were a lesson in remembering how to sew, but I think they came out OK.  I should probably mention that when I asked Ben if I could cut up his "khakis," he assumed I meant his tan/khaki-colored cargo pants, and he really did not want me to make a bag from his favorite old cargos.  I am sorry about that, Ben.

This morning, with most of a full bobbin of thread and a ready machine, I made quick repairs to two pairs of Ben's jeans and  2 diaper covers.  I need to do some other things, but it will require my changing the thread (Like that's such a huge job...but, obviously, I have other things I need to be doing too).
